Community:Matters evaluation report details our first year (2019-2020) collaborating with Create Arts to engage, inspire and empower the young people of Brent; through the ‘Create Live’ project.
Create Art is the UK’s leading charity empowering lives, reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing through the creative arts. Its programmes are aimed to enable society’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable people to develop creativity, learning, social skills and self-esteem.
The report provides details of all sessions carried out from October 2019 to July 2020. Initially programme was called Community:Matters. Create LIVE was formed after March in response to the coronavirus lockdown. For May and July break, young people received high quality, engaging, interactive, collaborative creative workshops with participants in their homes via Zoom.
Create LIVE, which takes place during half terms under Connect Stars ‘Express Yourself’ programme, uses experienced and qualified artist from Create Arts to deliver a specific focus workshop such as visual art, drama, music, zines, photography and dance. The facilitators offer our young participants the ability to explore their self-expression, enhance their creative thinking and their creative/art-form skills.
“I have been really happy being creative” – Afifa (participant, 9 years old),
The aim for the future is to source funding to develop our ‘Express Yourself’ programme to a wider community of young people from the Borough of Brent.
